Formative Assessment

ALTA Automates Formative Assessment

The main components of Alta's automated assessment solution are:
  • curriculum analysis, design and representation
  • item writing methodologies
  • item performance monitoring
  • response types
  • test selection
  • journaling and replay
  • outcomes presentation
  • outcomes analyses
For automated assessment, a curriculum can be represented as an STLC© grid - Subject, Topic, Level and Criterion.

A subject sub-divides into topics, where progress within each topic is measured against level statements, and where each level statement is decomposed into a set of discrete criteria, where each criterion represents a unique well-defined learning objective.

The STLC© grid is designed so that related criteria revealed over several levels progress from lower to higher levels, and from left to right within a level. Criteria should offer opportunities to set questions across a range of difficulties.
